Join Danny and Sandy with Party Britain Costumes

Get with the scene for the original high school musical which is currently on tour throughout the UK.

Grease is starting off in Scotland before making its way across to Belfast and Derry then hitting several English dates including Nottingham and Bristol.

Party Britain’s best-selling Grease outfit is always the Pink Lady jacket. This looks especially fab if a team of you are wearing them. The 1950s zipper jacket has cuffs and waistband and is great teamed with a pink wig and bowling bag. For the whole ensemble put on a pair of tight black jeans and killer high heels. You’ll look ELECTRIFYIN’.

Meanwhile if your other half insists on coming with you then we’ve got just the thing for him too – a Danny T-Bird jacket. This cool leather look number is officially ‘Grease’ licensed (just like the pink lady jacket) and will whisk you back to the 1950s as quick as you say, in hand-jive fashion, ‘A-wop-bop-a-loo-bop A-wop-bam-boom!’

If the innocent Sandy is more your style Grease-wise then we have her costume too – white top with red collar, red skirt and Rydell High emblem. Possibly our favourite outfit though is the Grease Poodle Dress with its black sexy off-the-shoulder top, red scarf and puff out skirt with poodle motif. Actually, it’s all good!

Get Smurfing this Summer

Have you seen it yet? Here at Party Britain we’re all set to head off to the cinema this weekend to watch the most talked-about film this summer.

The Smurfs hit the 3D celluloid screen earlier this month in the States and in its first weekend grossed $35.6 million. The audience, many of whom have been turning up in fancy dress costumes, loved it.

And it you want to get in the mood for movie too we’ve quite a selection of Smurf gear here on the Party Britain cyber shelves. But don’t hang around ‘cos it’s practically flying out the door.

New in is the Papa Smurf dress-up costume. It’s an all-in-one jumpsuit with dinky matching shoe covers, a blue top and matching gloves, red bottoms and hat. A white beard completes the look. Invest in some face paint and you’ll probably get mobbed when you turn up at the cinema, so realistic is the look.

And ladies, there’s a fancy dress costume for you too, complete with white skirt, net petticoat and braces, blue apron and the obligatory white gloves.

For those who haven’t been living on this planet in the last month or so and don’t know the film’s plot, it centres around the Smurfs being chased out of their village by Gargamel and ending up in the Big Apple. There they stay in Patrick and Grace’s apartment until Papa Smurf is kidnapped. For the rest folks you’ll just have to go see the movie as we don’t want to spoil it for you.

You’ll love the stellar cast which includes the ubiquitous Katy Perry as Smurfette, Alan Cumming as Gutsy Smurf and George Lopez plays Grouchy Smurf (to get into the part Lopez didn’t drink coffee and made sure he arrived in the studio full of road rage after negotiating the city’s highways at the busiest hour).

We’ll see you there then!

Menace turns heads as Doggie Dracula

And if it’s not Dad’s – it’s the family dog.

Sticking with our unusual fancy dress outfit stories, this time the Party Britain team learned about Menace, the mean-looking English bulldog hogging the limelight with a selection of fancy dress paraphernalia.

Menace, whose from Stockport, is regularly attired in his favourite Count Dracula dress-up costume. Another favourite is the ‘hoody’ look when he wears a top complete with the St George’s cross.

Owner Melanie Morley, 39, said: “Menace loves his outfits and likes to strut around the neighbourhood with them on. A neighbour bought the Dracula outfit for her own dog but it was too small so I tried it on Menace. He loved it immediately and ran around showing it off.”

The dressing up in fancy dress costumes seems to have gone to the dog’s head though.

Melanie added: “He’s become a bit of a prima donna. He ignores other dogs, believing he’s better than them.”

Menace might have a point there though. He recently won the title of ‘most handsome male’ at the Manchester Pink Dog Show for butch and camp pets.

Does your pooch wear fancy dress? Maybe you and your dog like to wear the same get-up? Please let us know. We’d love to hear your tales (no pun intended).

Dastardly Dad does a Daily Dress-up

Here at Party Britain we loved the story doing the rounds on the internet recently about the American dad who continually gave his son a red face by turning up in a different fancy dress outfit every morning to wave him off on the school bus.

The media have officially named Dale Price – who has more than 170 fancy dress costumes – ‘the world’s most embarrassing dad.’

The idea for the prank began when the joker dad appeared at the foot of the drive way in a wedding dress one morning (the bus stops at outside the family’s house in Utah). Rain, 16, was so embarrassed that he begged his mum Rochelle to warn his dad not to do it again. Dale did the opposite, seeing the threat as a challenge.

So far he’s appeared as Wonder Woman, a mermaid, Bat girl and even sat on a toilet on one occasion with his shorts around his ankles and reading a newspaper.

As to his son’s embarrassment Mr Price wasn’t far off the mark when he commented: “I hope this stays with Rain for the rest of his life.”

Anyone ever played a fancy dress trick on you? Tell the Party Britain team about it and we may even feature it on our blog – if you can stand the embarrassment, that is.

Party Britain is Wicked when it comes to Wizard of Oz Outfits

Thousands dresses up in fancy dress for the day as Dorothy, the cuddly lion or tapped into the tin man’s tenacity to help raise money for charity at the same time.

Fancy dress characters from the film, made famous by Judy Garland, congregated at Potter’s Fields Park in London on Sunday, June 5 to raise money for HIV charity Terrence Higgins Trust.

It involved a 10K circular walk – or run – taking in Tower Bridge, Covent Garden and Waterloo Bridge. Previous participants included singer and X-Factor judge Danni Minogue.

At Party Britain you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to Wizard of Oz fancy dress finery.

For instance you can be pretty Dorothy in her plain blue check cotton gingham dress with matching hair bow. Or you can set pulses racing a bit (and not due to the exhaustion involved in running) with this Sexy Dot outfit. The dress is still blue gingham but it’s sparkling with sequence and has the touch of Austrian barmaid about it, especially as it includes two red hair ribbons for pleats. A pair of white stockings sets off the outfit. Whichever Dorothy you decide to go as though, we’re sure Toto would like to get out his basket and take a walk too.

Men – or women – dressed as Dorothy’s three companions on the road, and as the two witches. The Wicked Witch costume at Party Britain is particularly stunning and would frighten its own reflection, especially if the green face paint is called into play.
Whatever your choice though, take a look in our Wizard of Oz wardrobe and congratulations to those who took part on the ‘yellow brick’ road on June 5.

Party Britain Tunes In To Celeb Culture

The fancy dress outfit NOT to wear at celebrity model/singer/actress Katie Price’s 33rd birthday party recently was definitely the Baywatch fancy dress costume.

That’s because no fewer than THREE guests turned up in the red costume carrying surf boards. However, none of them wore what we think is the best version – the ‘larger lady’ Baywatch number.

Other costumes on display at Katie’s Fancy Dress party included Tinkerbell (Only Way is Essex’s Lauren Pope), Futuristic Babe (Michelle Heaton from the same show) and a comedy turn of woman and baby from ex-EastEnders star Dean Gaffney. Unfortunately for the Paparazzi Ms Price was nowhere to be seen at her party so we’re still guessing what she came as.

Meanwhile, other celebs who’ve embraced fancy dress are wide-ranging. Some used the opportunity to show off their ‘natural’ assets such as Paris Hilton as a Playboy Bunny and Mariah Carey with her sexy corpse bride look. Anne Hathaway as Cleopatra also looked pretty stunning but not in a revealing way.

English model Erin O’Connor has been spotted sporting the Frenchie in Grease look while American Pie star Jason Biggs looked exceedingly cute as Dorothy from Wizard of Oz.

What’s your favourite fancy dress party outfit? Whatever it is you’re sure to find it – or get inspiration for other ideas – in the Party Britain wardrobe. Take a look today on our website at www.partybritain.com

It Doesn’t have to be Grimm at Party Britain

We do like to remain right on trend here at Party Britain. That’s why, in keeping with the latest blockbuster craze at cinema screens throughout the UK, we have a stunning range of Little Red Hiding fancy dress costumes.

Produced by the team behind Twilight, this stunning – and er, quite scary – production is mesmerising movie-goers as you read this.

With the lovely Amanda Seyfried in the lead role and backed with big names such as Gary Oldman and Shiloh Fernandez it’s no wonder this remake of the original Brothers Grimm fairytale is currently on everyone’s lips.

Little Dead Riding Hood Fancy DressBe the star of the show yourself with this super sexy number which features a little red checked dress, complete with stays and white stockings. The silky red cape sets it all off nicely and show you mean business by carrying a wolf’s head in a basket!

Then again, you could completely dispel the sweet and innocent notion with this Little Dead Riding Hood costume. Enchant fellow party-goers with this ripped dress and cape together with the torn stockings and blood-encrusted knife. The fancy dress outfit comes with brooch and latex belt and is guaranteed to strike fear into the heart of any predatory wolf – human or otherwise.

What about batting for the other side though and going as the wolf? The costume set is a huge favourite with couples who often reverse the traditional roles to better effect.

Wonder How Long the Latest Fancy Dress Look will Last for this Woman

Wow, how fast do things turn around in showbiz when it comes to costumes and outfits we ask ourselves here at Party Britain?

Very – if the Wonder Woman costume fiasco is anything to go by. Just days ago we posted here on our very own Party Britain blog that the Great American Public were unhappy with the new Wonder Woman outfit recently displayed by Adrianne Palicki. The nubile 20-something is to take over the role in a new series for NBC – well, attractive as she still is, Lynda Carter must be hitting 60 at least by now. And no-one wants to see Wonder Woman having to dye her hair and reach for her spectacles when a bad guy hoves into view.

So anyhow, NBC costume designers have now gone and changed it haven’t they! The light blue boots have been replaced with the traditional red ones and yes, the stars and stripes are back on, or at least the stars are – all the way down the leggings (which are now cotton instead of shiny blue vinyl).

Apparently the new reincarnation of the fancy dress outfit sorry, we mean TV costume, has met with fans’ approval. Thank goodness for that. In the meantime, we prefer the retro Wonder Woman look. And don’t fret – we’ll keep you posted on any further updates…

Tap into trends at Party Britain

Heard of the latest fast-growing look for young Western women?

It’s from the Far East and is known as Elegant Gothic Lolita (EGL). Here at Party Britain it reminded us a lot of some of our fairy story fancy dress outfits.

And well it might for the look is apparently an intriguing mix of Alice in Wonderland meets French Maid (yes, we’re pleasingly very well stocked with those fancy dress costumes here too).

The EGL look is believed to have started in Japan and comprises knee length skirts with lots of petticoats, parasols and very little make-up except lipstick and mascara. The idea – for young teenage and twenty-something girls – is to look like a Victorian doll. Some advocates even go so far as to glue their eye-lids open and insert large, round contact lenses (honest!).

Celeb singer Gwen Stefani introduced the look to mass popular culture with her Harajuku girls. Other garments which make up the look are:

• Ruffled and elegant Victorian blouses
• Black blouses with white Peter Pan collars and cuffs.
• Lots of white lace and capped sleeves
• Baby doll dresses
• Headdresses with ruffles, ribbons and lace and worn with a bow under the chin
• Chunky shoes or clogs

It’s a bit like dress up really which brings us back to Party Britain and our range of fairy tale or Victorian costumes. Mix the two up and we reckon you’ll have cracked the old EGL look.

No Need to Roam for a Gnome at Party Britain!

There’s gnome getting away from it…fancy dress stores round the country are selling out when it comes to costumes of these little mischief makers.

Gnome Fancy DressThe boom in sales is all down to the rocketing popularity of Elton John and David Furnish’s new movie Gnomeo and Juliet. Starring huge names such as Michael Caine, Emily Blunt, Maggie Smith and James McAvoy, this animated tale of tangled tiny-tots’ love is a hit with parents and kids alike. And if you fancy joining in the fun well, we here at Party Britain believe you’re never too old to put on a dress-up costume of a blue tunic, huge black buckle belt and red felt hat. And if you’ve a fishing rod too, so much the better…

Then again, if you fancy your gnome costume to be a bit more smurf-like well, we’ve white dungarees, a blue jump suit and white hat to go. In fact, why not put on the white beard and gloves too? In for a penny…

Ah, doesn’t it take you back to your childhood? Everybody’s Auntie, it seemed, had at least one gnome in their front garden. My favourite was always the gnome trundling along with his fancy wee wheelbarrow (you could fill this with dropped flower petals).

For the fact-lovers amongst you, gnomes first appeared in rural Germany and were used to ward off thieves from stealing farm produce. Now, come on, don’t let anyone steal your limelight – release your inner-gnome today!
