Australia Day is a proud occassion for Australians all over the world. Many having parties, watching fireworks, donning their fancy dress costumes and just having a jolly good time. A fancy dress hockey tournament helped raise money for the Well Children Charity. The Colwall and Malvern Hockey Club saw their first annual mixed hockey tournament. The tournament consisted of five teams, all sporting fancy dress costumes and fancy dress accessories.

The novel fancy dress ideas resulted in the creation of the following fancy dress teams; Santa’s Little Helpers, I.D.I.O.T.S, St Trinian’s, Pretty In Pink and The Tarts. What a vibrant mix of fancy dress outfits! There were fancy dress elf shoes and fancy dress tutu’s galore.

The fancy dress tournament provided some great hockey action, with Pretty In Pink the overall winners. This commendable fancy dress effort was held in memory of Trevor Marston who played a huge part in helping and organising the hockey club.

Last weekend saw a celebration of what would have been Elvis Presley’s 75th birthday. Tributes and celebrations took place all over the world and yep, you’ve guessed it….there were plenty of Elvis fancy dress costumes to be found!

Europe’s largest Elvis tribute convention was held in a snowy Blackpool on the weekend. Here several hardcore fans performed as Elvis. All participants took the competition very seriously, presenting a dazzling array of Elvis fancy dress outfits, fancy dress wigs and other fancy dress accessories.

The celebrations spread as far as Sydney where Elvis impersonators and fans showed their admiration for the king of rock and roll. The event included an Elvis Street Parade, an Elvis Gospel Church Service and even the crowning of Miss Priscilla. There was no lack of fancy dress in Sydney either, with whole families donning Elvis fancy dress costumes. In Memphis, thousands of fans slept overnight outside Elvis’s Graceland home, to wake up there on his birthday. 262 brave charity goers plunged into the Solent to raise money for the Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Services. Many fundraisers put on their best fancy dress outfits to make the event extra special. A comical fancy dress penguin and a shark fancy dress costume were to be found looking rather chilly after the dip….you would have thought the penguin would have felt right at home…

The Isle of Man saw a familiar set up with over 250 people taking part in the Peel Dip to raise money for charity. Again some participants couldn’t resist a bit of fancy dress action. So Bugs Bunny fancy dress, Buzz Lightyear and even Elvis fancy dress costumes could be seen. It was a chilly affair but well worth it!

A Tesco store in Weston-Super-Mare saw its staff dress up in pirate fancy dress costumes for a day to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. The supermarket staff enjoyed the swashbuckling day, with plenty of fancy dress swords, eye patches and ‘ooh-arr’ing to be found. This fancy dress day helped push the supermarket closer to its £200,000 target for the children’s charity.

So we’re less than a week into the new year and there have already been some great fancy dress fundraising efforts. Can’t wait to see what fancy dress delights the rest of the year has in store…..

There were some great fancy dress ideas I must say! Disco diva’s and Hippie fancy dress costumes certainly were popular. There was no shortage of fancy dress afros and flares either. A lot of people went for a comedy value with their fancy dress costume this year. Shark Attack, Chilli Pepper and Cockroach fancy dress outfits really were a hit.
